Health: The Struggle is Real
Updated: Jul 29, 2020

Stay Home, Stay Safe. We’ve been hearing a lot of this lately. There is a scary virus that spreads in ways we cannot comprehend. People are getting sick and some are even dying. It feels like something out of a movie...a movie that hasn’t had an ending written yet.
We mostly discuss the economy and financial struggles that come as a result of a corrupted system that never properly taught its citizens how to properly handle life as we know it. Personal responsibility is a common theme here. I see a very familiar theme when it comes to the topic of our own health.
Much like our finances, many of us have never really learned how to take good care of ourselves. With the rise of fast food restaurants combined with longer working hours and living in a constant state of stress, we’ve given ourselves permission to ignore our overall health in exchange for convenience. It has become the American Way.
Do You Really Not Have Enough Time?
Nearly 40% of Americans are obese. We tend to ignore this conversation when it comes to the Coronavirus even though its been shown that you have nearly a 30% greater chance of dying from the virus if you are classified as obese. Instead of wondering how we can avoid spreading this virus, maybe we should start taking steps from a personal perspective as to how we can strengthen our immune system so that we can survive the battle should we contract it.
Because the Struggle is certainly real when it comes to health. We don’t have time to work out, its too expensive to eat right, or its too hard to kick the bad habits we’ve been partaking in for years. Or at least that’s what we tell ourselves. The answer is right in front of us but we don’t think enough of ourselves or give ourselves enough credit to take this head on.
"As we continue to see spikes in cases as states begin to re-open, there is a realistic chance we will go into Shutdown 2.0 and I’m not quite sure many of us can handle another blow like this."
It should come as no surprise that I’m going to call bullshit on this. These are excuses and there is no place for excuses here in the Struggle State. This should be your wake up call. Waiting around every corner is a virus that wants to take you out. Not only is it after your immune system but its after your job as well. As we continue to see spikes in cases as states begin to re-open, there is a realistic chance we will go into Shutdown 2.0 and I’m not quite sure many of us can handle another blow like this. Especially because I think the Government is done bailing people and small businesses out.
Start Small, The Results Will Be Lasting
So lets do something about this. The virus lacks power if it doesn’t do the thing we fear most and that’s taking our lives. For those who are older or have weakened immune systems then there is a different conversation to be had. But for those of us who have the ability to improve our health and wellness, we have a civic duty to do so. Like anything worth doing it won’t be easy...but the good thing about this is the cost of entry into making healthy choices in life is relatively low and you can make these changes almost instantaneously.
Start with a half hour everyday. Do some cardio, lift some weights, skip dessert, drink water instead of your afternoon coca cola. Little things like this will have a lasting impact on your well being. Trust me, once you’re on a roll it will feel like second nature. And if that’s not motivation enough, you just might save a life...yours. The Government certainly can’t stimulate a new one of those for you...
